Eaton Corporation Lead Technician - Mechatronics in Southfield, Michigan

Eaton’s Vehicle division is seeking a Lead Technician-Mechatronics to join our team. The position will be based at our Southfield, MI facility.

The Lead Technician-Mechatronics is a key driver in the success of all Vehicle Technology & Innovation (VTI) projects. Applicant’s responsibilities will include testing, assembly, and disassembly of existing and prototype products, vehicles, and test cells.   • You will assemble and disassemble prototype mechanical and/or electrical components and systems, contribute to product improvements, and collect data.

  • You will set up instrumentation for both standard and specialized testing, initiate and run tests, use special instrumentation and software, and select test methods or processes.

  • You will provide technical advice and direction in the design, fabrication and instrumentation of test fixtures.

  • You will provide insight and status of test performance.

  • You will utilize effective data acquisition mythologies to safeguard the integrity of the data.

  • You will guide the safe utilization and operation of engine and powertrain dynamometers.

  • You will perform instrument and test cell calibration, maintain calibration database, participate in process audits.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years of automotive, truck, or aviation experience including test equipment operation, PC-based control systems, data acquisition, mechanical assembly and disassembly, and/or electronics assembly and test experience.

  • OR Associates degree in Associates Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Technology from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2 years of automotive, truck, or aviation experience including test equipment operation, PC-based control systems, data acquisition, mechanical assembly and disassembly, and/or electronics assembly and test experience.

  • OR Bachelor degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Technology from an accredited institution with automotive, truck, or aviation experience including test equipment operation, PC-based control systems, data acquisition, mechanical assembly and disassembly, and/or electronics assembly and test experience.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within the immediate geographical area of Southfield, MI will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Technology from an accredited institution.

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to attain a CDL.

  • Experience with Mechanical Assembly/Disassembly or Electronics Assembly/Test/

  • Knowledge of powertrain and powertrain emissions, electrical drivetrains, and Failure Evaluations.

  • Experience with software tools and programming environments (i.e. iTest, ADX, LabVIEW, MATLAB, CANape).

  • Experience with Test Equipment Operation, Data Acquisition, or PC-based Control Systems.

Position Success Criteria:

  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

  • Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Aptitude.

  • Experience with Windows-based Computer Software.
