Eaton Corporation Specialist – External Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting in Cleveland, Ohio

Eaton’s Corporate Sector is seeking a Specialist – External Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting. The Specialist – External Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting will be based at our Beachwood, OH facility.

Position Overview:

The Specialist – External Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting assists in facilitating the timely and accurate reporting of quarterly and annual financial information as required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) (Form 10-K, 10-Q, etc.), Ireland Companies Act, government regulations, and/or interested parties for Eaton and certain subsidiaries. Additionally, this role interprets and analyze accounting standards in order to ensure Eaton’s compliance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP) and performs research and assists on providing guidance on technical accounting issues for Eaton’s global operations/businesses and corporate functions as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the complete, timely and accurate preparation of the consolidated financial statements, related notes and MD&A for the quarterly earnings release and the related SEC Form 8-K, quarterly Form 10-Q, annual Form 10-K and annual Irish statutory report, all of which are high-profile documents that Eaton releases to the investing public and/or files with the SEC or Irish governing body.

  • Prepare for tie-outs/reviews of the quarterly earnings release presentations, graphs, narratives and other quarterly/annual documents related to information provided to the public investing community, as needed, to ensure completeness and accuracy.

  • Assist in the complete, timely and accurate preparation of the financial section of the Annual Report to Shareholders, which is a high-profile document that Eaton distributes to the investing public and shareholders.

  • Coordinates the quarterly and annual support request lists related to the corresponding SEC filing(s). Responsible for obtaining/processing all required support necessary to prepare the documents noted above and creating/maintaining neat and thorough support binders for the related SEC filing(s). Also, completes quarterly/annual GAAP checklists.

  • Assist in the complete, timely and accurate preparation of statutory annual financial statements required for certain Puerto Rico subsidiaries of Eaton.

  • Monitor activities of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and SEC, analyze new accounting pronouncements in order to determine the impact to Eaton, assist in the evaluation of the related disclosure requirements to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and prepare pro-forma tables and disclosures as necessary to model the related disclosure impact

  • Researches new accounting standards and technical accounting questions from Eaton’s various business operations and corporate functions.

  • Perform peer-group analysis on presentation/disclosure items as requested.

  • Participate in drafting SEC comment letter replies and responses to the FASB on proposed accounting standards.

  • Provide assistance and supporting documents to Ernst & Young for their quarterly reviews and annual audit of Eaton’s consolidated financial statements, annual Irish Report, Annual Report to Shareholders and the statutory annual financial statements of certain Puerto Rico subsidiaries of Eaton.

  • Complete certain annual Required Supplementary Data (RSD) schedules, which accumulate required data associated with certain disclosures within the annual Form 10-K. This includes review of information submitted by all ledgers for completeness and accuracy, following up with ledger owners as needed to obtain complete and accurate information, performing reasonableness analysis over the data submitted, and preparing the related disclosures.

  • Assist in performing the Workiva (SEC filing software) processes for the 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K and Form SD documents that are required to be filed with the SEC. This includes rolling projects forward, creating new projects as needed, linking documents, updating financial information, disclosures and XBRL tabs, tracking version control, processing edits, performing multiple reviews/tie-outs, converting to Electronic Data Gathering and Reporting (EDGAR) format, and filing with the SEC via Workiva. Works with Customer Success Representative at Workiva as needed.

  • Assist as needed in the processes related to all “census-type” governmental financial reporting.


Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university is required.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license that is active is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ of professional experience in accounting is required.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ of public accounting experience is required.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within a 50 mile radius of the Beachwood, OH facility will be considered

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SEC reporting requirements, including preparation and/or review of Form 10-K and Form 10-Q filings

  • 3-5 years’ professional experience working with, or for, a large, multi-national corporation

  • Experience with Workiva, HFM and Oracle

Position Criteria:

  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, FASB pronouncements and SEC rules and regulations.

  • Strong verbal and written communication, a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing priorities.

  • The ability to utilize different search engines, web-based programs, and other sources of information for accounting and SEC reporting research.
