Divisional Engineering Director (m/w)
Location: Bonn, Germany
This position is responsible for leading the global product engineering activities and teams in the ICPD (Industrial Control and Protection Division) division.
Responsibilities include product development, cost reduction, and sustaining engineering for multiple product lines to enable market leadership for the division. Teams are located in various locations. This position will not only manage all engineering departments associated with this effort, but will also take an active role in the development projects, value engineering and innovation initiatives. Working closely with product line managers, operations and sales this position forms part of the division’s leadership staff and is expected to actively contribute to product line strategic direction, profit plan goals and continuous organizational improvement. The engineering director also assumes a leadership role in the technology and product road mapping process. The incumbent will work closely with functional electrical sector leadership to ensure alignment of engineering strategy.
Develop and execute the new product development strategy and product development roadmap to achieve the company goals for sales vitality growth.
Directs the development of innovation and technology projects, monitors achievements and reviews progress. Drives innovation as a dynamic partnership between R&D and Marketing using consumer product experience; Generates new and unique ideas; brings the original and value-added into brainstorming settings.
Drive continuous improvement by implementing value add/value engineering (VA/VE) projects to achieve annual cost reduction goals.
Lead the sustaining engineering function to create engineer-to-order products, provide production and customer support.
Works closely with the manufacturing operations to ensure products meet quality requirements.
Champions global technology realization programs utilizing our internal PRELaunch / PROLaunch process including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Project Reviews. Works closely with domestic and international manufacturing locations to coordinate successful ProLaunch process to ensure deadlines are met..
Lead and develop product standards team through process improvements.
Lead and develop the engineering team in support of talent development initiatives.
Oversee the deployment, and disciplined use of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) to ensure timely and cost effective product development and introduction.
Responsible to assure that all products meet appropriate national and international codes and standards.
Closely collaborate with Product Management to develop multi-generation product roadmaps and strategy.
Partner with offshore engineering teams to accelerate engineering development.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering responsibility
Minimum 5 years of direct engineering management experience
Demonstrated experience in implementation of large scale product development programs
Solid experience with a phase gate process for new product development
Strong project management experience
Strong oral and written communication skills in English and preferably German
Successfully proven cross-functional interpersonal and leadership skills
Deals with concepts and complexity or ambiguity comfortably, intellectually sharp, agile and capable
Experienced in multi-cultural working environments and developing communication strategies across them
Extensive experience working with international suppliers and/or customers
Experience working with offshore engineering resources
Understanding of ICPD products
