Eaton Crouse-Hinds in Syracuse, New York is looking for a Wirer /Assembler

Primary Function: Perform a variety of assembly, machining, wiring, gauging, fitting, and packing duties to completely assemble and recondition a variety of explosion proof components and products; power panels; and panelboards that conform to rigid specifications and quality demands.

  • Work from wiring diagrams, orders or engineering specifications (cookbook). Use “work flow” as needed for reference purposes

  • Work with Engineering and Quality personnel to maintain workflow and ensure quality standards and customer service requirements are met.

  • Setup and operate fabricating machines to cut, strip and attach lug ends to wire leads.

  • Inspect and check hub arrangement to specifications and drawings; file and remove burrs; fit nuts and nipples; apply grease to screw threads and screw on covers or oil cover and body and check for tight joints using feeler gauge; tighten bolts on cover and set aside for pickup; assemble nameplates to covers as necessary with self-tapping screws; assemble switches or breakers as specified; assemble mounting feet to body with screws. Pack small size items in cardboard boxes.

  • Use variety of hand, pneumatic and power tools such as screwdrivers, nut runners, wrenches, taps, etc. Operate drill press to tap or re-tap holes; change worn taps as necessary. File components to clean up or fit.

  • Assemble by bolts, screws, nuts, washers, etc. Components include bodies, covers, bases and related condulet details. Perform routine wiring operations whenever necessary, using P.O.’s, wiring diagrams and operation method sheets

  • Required to build various terminal block units along with explosion proof units.

  • Care necessary to position material and perform assembling operations along with wiring operations in proper sequence. Pack, label and seal as prescribed

  • Use special care in the preparation and inspection of all mating surfaces in explosion proof assemblies, and vary procedures in sequence as necessary to meet varying conditions of material and product Maintain the Material Replenishment System(MRS).

  • Assemble mounting plates or frames; assemble and wire starters, relays, transformers, switches, circuit breakers; assemble electrical details to housings; GFI and hot test GFI; affix operating shafts, bearings and indicating plates; fit and adjust outer operating controls as prescribed.

  • Add panel sections, drill holes or otherwise prepare panelboards for the mounting of various component parts in their proper sequence.

  • Wire and solder connections as specified using care to maintain continuity and avoid damage to heat sensitive components and delicate parts.

  • Make large number of screw connections between terminal blocks of various component parts.

  • Assemble complete or recondition and install completed assembly into cabinets as required.

  • Assemble wood shipping container.

  • Responsible for maintaining quality work in the preparation of assemblies.

  • Maintain work area in a clean, safe and orderly condition. Assist in the day to day maintenance of the MRS (Material Replenishment System).

  • Perform Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities such as minor maintenance that includes cleaning, inspection, minor lubrication and tightening loose bolts.

  • Detect and segregate faulty material.

  • Detect errors found in drawings, prints, production orders or other paperwork used to produce customer orders, and report discrepancies to supervision.

  • Recommend engineering changes and improvements. Help promote a team environment. Follow standard or prescribed safety regulations.

  • Refer all questionable cases to proper supervision.

  • Duties involve judgment and some planning and making of decisions as to sequence of operations or procedures within limits of standard or recognized methods and established precedent.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Only candidates residing within the immediate geographic area (50 miles) of Syracuse, NY will be considered for this position

  • Ability to read electrical blueprints

  • Judgement required to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of operations and processes within the limitations of recognized or standard methods and procedures.

  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, divide including decimals and fractions; make ordinary use of charts and tables, schedules and properly interpret reports or recorded data.
