Eaton Corporation Packaging Engineer in Southfield, Michigan

Eaton’s Vehicle Division is seeking a Packaging Engineer. The Packaging Engineer will be based out of our Southfield, MI location.

Positon Overview:

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for the initiation, development and timely completion of packaging design projects for all Eaton Vehicle Group North America (VGNA) product lines. Included within the framework of these duties is technical and cost analysis of packaging concepts, evaluation of alternative designs, tooling development, validation of prototype dunnage and production release. This position is also responsible for assisting all Eaton VGNA sites in troubleshooting existing packaging problems and process improvements related to packaging. The Lead Packaging Engineer will work cross functionally with Supply Chain, Logistics, Product Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Program Management. In addition, this position will develop a Packaging Strategy to ensure a consistent approach for addressing VGNA packaging expectations long term

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with suppliers, packaging vendors, warehouse and plant personnel to define and implement well-designed packaging solutions on-time and in-budget for 30+ existing and new programs. This includes concept, design, testing, tooling, etc.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally across domestic and international teams, customers, and suppliers.

  • Review and approve all PPAP requirements for VGNA packaging.

  • Maintain files for all VGNA packaging drawings and Packaging Approval Forms (supplier and customer) to aid in the evolution of existing or new packaging.

  • Support continuous improvement packaging projects generated by Eaton plants.

  • Track and report-out on all projects bi-weekly so as to keep VG teams informed of progress toward launch dates.

  • Conduct analysis of packaging data e.g. returnable dunnage system size calculations for production shipments

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • A minimum of 5 years of packaging engineering experience.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • No relocation assistance is being provided. Only candidates that currently reside within a 50 mile radius of Southfield, MI will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 7 years of packaging engineering experience.

  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 10 years packaging engineering experience & proven track record of successfully delivered solutions.

  • APICS CPIM certified.

  • Worked in packaging for an OEM customer.

Position Criteria:

  • Background in hands-on, packaging development; including requirements, design, coding, debugging and test.

  • Excellent leadership, teambuilding, project management, and collaboration skills

  • Superior ability to align solutions with business objectives using sound judgment

  • Experience with supplier quality management.

  • Full understanding of APQP & statistical data analysis leading to data based decision making.

  • Ability to present ideas in a business-friendly and user-friendly language.
