Eaton is hiring a Data Science Specialist in our Corporate Research and Technology Group in Southfield, MI. Corporate Research & Technology focuses on the front end of innovation by: conducting research to advance the state of the art, emphasizing cross-business impact technologies, and innovating to provide Eaton’s customers’ with safe, efficient, and reliable power management solutions.
The Data Analytics team has the principal goal of identifying, developing, and justifying commercialization of significant growth opportunities for diverse Eaton businesses by developing advanced data science technologies including machine learning and sensor fusion and applying them to intelligent devices, systems and services. The Data Science Specialist is expected to lead technology strategy and execution for specific applications. This includes acquiring resources, funding and establishing key partnerships both internally and externally to drive technological advancement. They will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development efforts under his/her control.
The Data Science Specialist should serve as a subject matter expert within the area of Data Analytics for Eaton. This includes developing and maintaining relationships with the external technical community and academia, active participation in industry or technical groups and events, publishing papers, etc. Finally as a subject matter expert internally the Engineering Specialist will be expected to mentor junior staff and consult with internal business & engineering customers.
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
Minimum 5 years of experience and extensive knowledge of machine learning and sensor fusion technologies applied to connected and intelligent vehicles.
Ability to prototype machine learning and sensor fusion algorithms and apply them data driven solutions to problems in new domains and strong business acumen and the ability to understand and formulate compelling value propositions, and to understand and drive through value and adoption chains.
Ability to apply six sigma methodologies including QFD, design of experiments, and reliability engineering in the course of their work. Green belt certification in DFSS or DMAIC is highly desired.
Proven track record for IP generation and publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals is highly desired.
Master’s or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics or equivalent technical field from an accredited institution.
Software development skills in one or more high level languages (C#/C/C++/Java/Python) and rapid prototyping platform (MATLAB/SIMULINK).
Expertise with common machine learning tools (Weka, R, RapidMiner and etc.) and experience with AWS or Azure is a plus.
Experience in building production grade machine learning and sensor fusion enabled solutions end to end is a plus
Experience in leading projects with multiple stakeholders in matrix organizations and strong program management skills.
Experience in writing government proposals is also desired; demonstrated success as evidenced by being selected for funding and successful execution of government sponsored projects is preferred.
