Eaton Corporation Tax Manager, North Asia & ANZ in Shanghai Shi, China
Reporting to Regional International Tax Director, the Tax Manager North Asia will have responsibility for tax matters within China Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea, including strategic tax planning, managing outside tax audits and tax compliance including satisfying documentation requirements for FAS 404, APB 23 and FIN 48.
This position will proactively provide strategic tax guidance for North Asia where Eaton has significant operations. Local tax issues will funnel through this position. The person will be required to understand the complexities of tax law, regulations and judicial precedence for multiple types of tax in multiple countries and to understand the practical implications to Eaton’s local operations and to Eaton’s overall global structure.

Strong issue recognition in order to mitigate risk and identify opportunities.
Proactively review and analyze major acquisitions, divestitures, plant movements or other business transactions and identify any necessary GAAP reporting requirements.
Work with Regional Tax Managers and the tax leadership team at WHQ to understand Eaton’s business operations and develop and implement strategic tax structures in response to the changing business environment.
Become internal tax resource for North Asia operational leadership and teams.
Monitor and analyze changes in local country tax laws in North Asia Countries, regulations and judicial precedence in order to recommend appropriate, timely responses and create value through a lower effective tax rate.
Manage the tax compliance function by working with internal Eaton resources and outside consultants. Streamline the compliance process. Identify potential exposure areas and appropriate responses.
Manage local income tax audits.
Support Regional and WHQ Tax leadership in documentation required under FIN 48, FAS 404, and APB 23
Become the go-to resource on technical matters for North Asia Countries in order to materially reduce outside fees.
This position requires 8 to 10 years’ experience in international tax. A Bachelor’s Degree is required. CPA or Registered PRC Tax Accountant is a plus. Strong experience with income taxes in the primary country within the North Asia Countries is a plus. Experience with indirect taxes is a plus. In addition the position requires a person with strong skills in the following areas:
A. Tax law – Statutes, regulations and court decisions must be interpreted and fully understood.
B. Eaton Operations – Eaton’s effective tax rate is driven by tax efficient structuring of the business operations.

D. Opportunity recognition ability during a change in operating facts.
E. Strong mental horsepower-deep analytical thinker with the ability to deal with complexity.
F. Ability to successfully multi-task across numerous highly complex projects.
G. Ability to successfully evaluate and deal with high-stakes risk where the tax law is not clear.
H. Accounting – Because the tax laws are applied to financial transactions, must understand how transactions are recorded and reported on the books and how and where tax accounting rules differ from book accounting rules. Also necessary to analyze complex financial transactions in order to determine which tax laws apply.
I. Computer skills – Must be fluent in the use of standard software, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Also, must have experience with Eaton’s financial systems.
J. Communications – Must be able to clearly communicate tax explanations, answers, recommendations or alternatives regarding complex financial transactions and legal issues to both tax and non-tax personnel.
K. Interpersonal skills – Must interact effectively with people, both inside and outside Eaton with diverse backgrounds, languages and different objectives.
L. Business Judgment – Must understand how tax decisions or plans impact other areas such as Treasury and Operations and develop, recommend and implement tax strategies consistent with non-tax objectives.
