Eaton Corporation Programming Technician (2nd Shift) in Searcy, Arkansas

Eaton in Searcy, AR is seeking a full-time Programming Technician to work second shift.

Primary Function:

The Programming technician will modify and develop CNC programs from product and tooling drawings that will produce precision parts in accordance with applicable engineering specifications. Emphasis in this position is the complete preparation of CNC programs, documentation, and the training of the shop floor personnel. Interaction will be required with manufacturing engineers, supervisors, lead people and other employees to satisfy the needs of our customers and Eaton.

Essential Functions:

  • Modify and create programs with proper tool sequence and feeds/speeds to optimize CNC programs

  • Set up, adjust, prove out programs, and operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to exact tolerances.

  • Program and document revisions as required including work procedures, tool lists, and JIP sheets.

  • Collecting, compiling data for PPAP submittal

  • Gathering and analyzing data related to process capability

  • Assist with design of tooling and fixtures

  • Provide input on machining efficiency improvements and cost versus benefit analysis of new tooling considerations.

  • Operation of CAD software such as Autocad, ProE, etc.

  • Provide design assistance for products for ease of manufacturing.

  • Maintain tooling inventory list, CNC program files, and set up sheets on computer

  • Program 4 & 5 axis mills, grinders, and Swiss style lathes.

  • Work from drawings, specifications, programs, setup instructions, and other data to meet deadlines.

  • Setup machines for operations such as boring, milling, drilling, facing, threading, diamond bar lapping and occasional profiling and contouring.

  • Operate Coordinate Measurement Machines(CMM), height gage, calipers, micrometers, profilometers and other quality gages to verify part quality.

  • Calibrate and operate onboard measurement probes to establish work coordinates.

  • Upload and download program files from DNC and/or other media storage devices.

  • Provide design assistance for products and produce engineering drawings for tools and fixtures.

  • Recommend special tools to maximize productivity. (IE: Special end mills, fixtures, etc.)

  • Create and manipulate part geometry for CNC programs in CAM software.

  • Provide set-up sheet(s) for each job.

  • Evaluate and approve program integrity prior to release to the shop floor.

  • Evaluate fixtures required and confirm needs with vendors and tool room.

  • Assist cross functional groups with Programming Support to address quality or delivery concerns.

  • Provide manufacturing labor and materials cost estimates for new products and processes.

  • Employee must follow all safety rules, report all accidents or unsafe conditions to supervision immediately, and wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Employee is responsible for the housekeeping of his/her work area and should maintain these areas to the 6S standards.

  • Employee is responsible for the quality of his/her work.

  • Attendance and punctuality is a key component in performing his or her job functions.

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of two years of experience operating manual, NC, and/or CNC machine tools or previous programming experience

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational certificate or two year degree in machining or a related field

  • CMM Programming experience

  • Cutting tool knowledge

  • Previous experience with AutoCAD, CADKey, ProE, or other drafting package.

  • Previous experience with MasterCAM, Esprit, or other CAM software preferred.

  • Blueprint reading, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD & T)

  • Shop math for machinist (inch to metric conversion, addition / subtraction of decimals and fractions, etc.)

  • Gauging concepts and techniques (calipers, height gages, micrometers, profilometer, roundness gages, plug gages, air gages, dial depth gages, etc.)

Position Criteria:

  • Previous experience in job setups requiring tooling and fixturing changes.

  • Knowledge of Lean principles

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information i.e. drawings, CMM reports, engineering standards, JIP sheets, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability of writing programs for horizontal machining centers and / or turning machines

  • Uploading and downloading files “DNC”

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with run out, flatness, parallelism, and hole positioning is a must.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to use precision measurement equipment (calipers, height gages, micrometers, profilometer, roundness gages, plug gages, air gages, dial depth gages, etc.)

  • Operation of personal computer including Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.

  • Previous experience creating and modifying engineering drawings on paper or with a computer.
