Eaton’s Power Electronics Centre of Excellence opened a position for an Engineering Manager - Power Electronics

Job description:

The team leader will be responsible for not only performing designing and building innovative power electronics solutions for power conversion and protection but also leading and directing a team of engineers and internal projects.

This position requires a technically strong engineer with management and leadership skills capable of leading a cross functional team and collaborating with a global team.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs design, modeling, simulation and implementation of power electronics circuits for power conversion and protection.

  • Performs requirement management process and architectural design of the system.

  • Creates technical reports and presentations.

  • Will build a team up to 15 Power Electronics Engineers. Leads, directs, and develops team of engineers and projects to achieve stated goals and objectives.

  • Monitors and reports overall performance of the team and its projects.

  • Attracts, hires, coaches, develops and mentors team members and strengthens technical capability of the team.

  • Initiates and develops solid relationships with both engineering and business leaders within Eaton to drive adoption of common platforms, common designs, and state-of-the art design methodologies like model-based control development using MIL and HIL.

  • Stays current with the latest power electronics technologies and business trends, applies knowledge to power conversion and protection applications, and creates new opportunities.

  • Partners with the Corporate Research and Technology (CRT) to develop a longer-term research portfolio for power electronics.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering

  • Solid engineering experience in power electronics designs and product development.

  • Experience or potential to lead people & manage a team.

  • Significant modeling, simulation, and analysis experience with tools like Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, PSIM and HIL tools (RT-LAB, RTDS, …).

  • Hands on experience with power converter development and testing.

  • Broad knowledge in power electronics designs including topology, analog/digital circuit, thermal management, control, and firmware.

  • Customer focused with good relationship building and communication skills.

  • Ability to learn new skills, knowledge, industry, or products.

  • Fluent in oral and written English.

Preferred Specialized Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of power semiconductors, magnetics design, EMC/EMI design practices, and PCBA design practices.

  • Understanding of electrical power distribution, protection and switching such as circuit breakers and contactors.

  • Understanding of control theory.

  • Understanding of global compliance standards.

  • Experience in power electronics virtual prototyping and Multiphysics simulation.
